This adventure started after giving birth to my one and only daughter. I was a stay at home mom, lost in this brand new world of motherhood. Like most new parents, I had lost my sense of self and was desperately trying to find myself again. I felt isolated, sad, scared, and anxious just about every minute of every day. Little did I know, I had postpartum depression and anxiety. The people who know me will tell you that I rarely discuss my feelings and keep everything bottled in...which is a recipe for disaster. I got into candle making after purchasing numerous candles and thought to myself that this could be something I could do considering my love for candles and all things that smell amazing.
Getting help with my PPD from my Doctor and having a creative outlet that let me spend time to myself and reflect has done wonders for me. I wish I would have confided in my friends and family a little more in the beginning and asked for help when I so desperately needed it. Working with my hands gave me a new found appreciation for candles and wax melts. What started out as a hobby, quickly became something I couldn't see myself not doing. Months later, I feel much better mentally. My daughter is the light of my life and she has taught me so much! I can't wait until she's older to thank her for what she's done for me. I want to be sure that she knows, no matter how bad things can become - it's never too late to seek help.
I switched to soy candles and wax melts when I became pregnant with her. After a lot of research, I discovered that soy products may be what could help with my frequent migraines and sore throat. Guys, it made a difference! My migraines are a thing of the past, along with waking with a sore throat. At that point, I decided I needed to be more mindful of what I was allowing to go into my body. Never in a million years did I think that I had a sensitivity to paraffin, which is what most box stores are using. Our candles are made from 100% soy wax. Our fragrances are high quality and free of phthalates. I feel good about the products I craft with. If I didn't I wouldn't use them around my daughter...her name is Layla by the way and I am Ashley.
